    ESPN has just reported the A's have fired Macha.

    Not sure I understand this one.

    Girardi wouldn't work in Oakland either. Billy Beane thinks managers are a dime a dozen. He's not gonna pay top dollar for a guy like Girardi who thinks he's a baseball Einstein.

    Yep, Washington seems to fit the bill. The players love him and he'd be grateful for the job, which means Beane could control him.

    And Macha never claimed to be an Einstein. He's a good baseball guy, but Oakland feels that Moneyball should be winning LCS's and World Series. Hell, Macha gotten them past the first round for the first time this post-season.

    I second the idea of Washington taking over. Sweet Lou, meet Lee Elia. :)
