Great retrospective on MLB Network is on right now now that Game 7 of the 1960 World Series has finally ended.

    Word. For. Word.

For nearly 45 minutes, I interviewed Feller in 1994 at Maverick Stadium in Adelanto. Candid, fascinating and utterly without pretense. Later that night, he would walk away from a line of autograph seekers for some affront the minor-league team's management would do or not do.

That said, he could not have been nicer to me. I remember comparing him to the modern player, none of whom (in that pre-Pat Tillman era) would have fathomed walking away from a baseball career to serve their country during wartime.

    RIP to a true American.

He felt like the only honest man in the sport during too many recent years of dishonesty. RIP.

One of the most enjoyable interviews of my career was with this great American.

RIP, Mr. Feller. You were a true hero.
