Over the weekend, Hyman Roth's line about $4 million took on a new resonance in my life.

    GFII is a great movie.

But the original Miracle on 34th Street is on right now as well. It's the tops this time of year.

Down goes Roth ... and Fredo ... and Frankie.

I believe the last scene is cinema's greatest juxtaposition: Michael sitting alone with nothing but his power and his memories. He defeated his enemies in a ruthless fashion, but in doing so, he alienated his wife and killed his only remaining brother. An absolutely perfect scene.

Pacino was robbed of an Oscar for Godfather Part II. Just for the eyes in the "It was an abortion!!!" scene. First, taking in the information. Then, understanding. Next is comprehension. And finally, absolute fury.

Amazing actor. Then he gets the damn Oscar for Scent of a Woman. Ugh.

What is this "greatest Godfather hits" montage now? Oh, yes. I forgot that they began Part III with that. A bad mistake; it only reminds viewers how good the old films were, and begins one that isn't horrible, but which pales in comparison.

Like the first one better than II.
In the last scene, when Kate sees the men kissing Michael's hand and then the door closes, it hinted at all that was to come. Subtlety, thine is moviemaking greatness.

The fatal of II is that we don't know what Fredo's trangression was.

I think that I is the better movie. While DeNiro is excellent, the Little Italy scenes are, for me, a tad indulgent and I've never thought that the flashback added to the Michael plot.
