God-awful baseball score -- no April Fools' joke needed

    I covered Oakland's baseball team when it was revived in the late 1980s, back in OU's D-II days. They could hit a little, but really only had one pitcher. The defense, though ... let me put it this way. The starting leftfielder had an .847 fielding percentage. The third baseman was around .860. The DH, well, couldn't play enough defense to get the .847 fielder off the field.

    The catcher did have a great arm. There were times we'd start to wonder if he was going to have to throw out 21 basestealers.
