Throw in Leigh Montville and The Globe was the best sports paper out there. I would drive
an 1 1/2 on Sunday just to get a copy of Sunday Globe.

The best gamers I've ever read are Dan Jenkins on the Nebraska-Oklahoma game of the century from 1971 and Selena Roberts on the Miami-Knicks series from several years ago.

Actually Selena Roberts made The Nets gamers interesting and I did not even follow
    The Nets.

When Selena Roberts wrote the Heat-Knicks gamer, a former editor of mine emailed a bunch of people and said, "In my 20+ years in this business, this is the best gamer I've ever read. Let me know if you agree."

It's safe to say we all did.

I don't care for that purple lede, but different strokes.
Maybe Tracy Ringolsby is a more accurate model of great reporter-pedestrian writer.
