Go see Kirk Cameron's new movie or go to Hell, heathen

  1. I'm not saying that you do, but I hope you don't lump all "Christians" in with people like that, or the likes of Pat Robertson, Jerry Falwell, etc.

"Growing Pains" was reponsible for introducing Chelsea Noble to the world and helped spawn "Just The Ten of Us", featuring two of the hottest TV daughters ever, Jamie Luner and Brooke Theiss.

    God bless "Growing Pains" 8)

That Growing Pains rewrite is absolute gold. Excellent work by the departed poster.

Also: Cameron went on Nightline a few months ago to talk about religion. While it is true that Cameron and his pastor are passionately religious and their views are not supported by science, they come off as OK people. The opponents come off . . not so well.

EDIT: JarOfFlies: Heather Langenkamp didn't turn out so bad either.

Wasn't that the one with Keanu, Charlize Theron and Pacino as the lawyer who turns out to be Satan?

(Along with about a million bad 70s B movies, but I defer to my colleague Joe Bob Briggs on that one.)

I love the part with the artwork. Bull Frog, Sheep Dog, Alliduck.

Kirk and his buddy do come across as very nice people.

There was a line that stressed their belief in God. That it is not if you read or believe in the scripture per say, but rather how you lead your life that determines your outcome. That it's not about reading the bible everyday, but rather not killing or raping, ect. that matters.

Now how is that anything like the Westboro freaks?

  10. OK, I'm going to try something different here, reviewing the movie. Full disclosure here, I am a christian . . .

. . . that being said, the movie was pretty bad, afterschool-special like. I went with Mrs. Proudpittsburgher on a sneek peek a few weeks back. My main problem was that I couldn't get past the bad acting. The movie didn't really look low-budget, just felt that way. Put it this way, Kirk Cameron was the best actor in the movie.

The movie was made top promote a marriage-saving book that is coming out, or has already come out, or something . . . that was the basis of the entire movie. Cameron is a firefighter, who instantly upon movie opening is fighting with his wife. Mostly about the little stuff, she didn't save dinner for him, he has a porn addiction, he doesn't make coffee for her in the morning, etc. His dad tells him that he should give this book a try, a 40-day plan to save their marriage. Kirk begrudgingly tries it, and the next hour and a half are filled with him trying this thing, her not appreciating it, her filing for divorce, almost cheating on him, Kirk turning his life around, Kirk coming to the lord, their marriage getting saved. Along the way there are some kinda (emphasis on kinda) funny scenes with the firemen talking in the firehouse, a funny older neighbor couple, and stuff like that. Very little actual firefighting going on. It is essentually a 90 minute advertorial for this book.

The acting was bad, painfully at times, the plotline had holes that even Cedrick Benson could run through (sorry Pallister ;D) and it just didn't do a whole lot for me. The clip that you can see online really is indicitive of the movie.

Problem I have is if you are trying to market this to a secular audience to get some converts,. then it is going to fail miserably. The message is good, but the movie just doesn't deliver. Like I said, afterschool special.

Sorry, just the image of that big lunk running through a huge hole was amusing to me. ;D

Wow, that's bad. Not only do Kirk and his wife both have token black friends, but everyone in the film speaks with a Southern accent, including the guy playing Kirk's dad. Yet Kirk talks like he's from California.
