GM flies 500 to Phoenix and puts them up at golf resort & spa

    I'm guessing you have no idea what you're talking about given that you start off with the assumption that GM doesn't get a steeply discounted room rate from the Sheraton when they bring 500 people to a sales meeting.

    Actually, the best way to guarantee they fail is to keep doing business they way they did in the past.

    If they don't want scrutiny, don't take the money. Ford can do whatever the hell they want.

    Scrutiny over ludicrous executive bonuses is fair game when you're taking public money. Marketing is different. What are they supposed to do, limit spending to billboards and bumper stickers? Wining and dining (and golfing) is part of the deal when you're luring people who have the *potential* to spend a helluva lot of money on your product.
