    All I am saying is that Minnesota has not made the commitment in the past to football the way pretty much every other Big Ten school other than maybe Northwestern (which can get by on being a Midwest Ivy) and Indiana has. You get what you pay for. And there's no recent tradition of which to speak.

    Look at Penn State: excellent facilities, 100,000-plus in the stands every weekend, a virtual gold mine since it owns most of its state, and no matter how much it throws into the program it's had its ups and downs in the Big Ten. It's hard to all of the sudden try to bring a school from nowhere, like Minnesota, into the upper pantheon of the conference.

    I'd say salaries are figured in. They count as an expense.

    Don't know how long ago you covered the Goofers. TV revenue has skyrocketed the past three or four years.
