Girl Missing In Portugal

In case you're living under a rock, it appears that some British lady might become a suspect in her daughter's disappearance in Portugal.

All I'd like to know is why I am supposed to care. There are reports that 100 people were killed by Hurricane Felix, and it's not as high in the U.S. news as this missing girl story. Who decided this should be a lead story?

None of those other people is a blond haired blue-eyed girl.

TV media loves these stories: so long as it involves pretty white girls.

I can name a half-dozen media profiled cases off the top of my head; all pretty white girls.

The HS girls from Alabama who disappeared on the tropical island.
Dru Sojdin the South Dakota coed who was abducted and killed by a sex predator
The BYU coed who is currently missing, but she's believed to have run away
The girl in New England who was abducted after leaving a bar
The girls in New York was abducted and killed by a bouncer after leaving a bar
The woman who walked away from a religious conference a few months ago
The married hooker in Colorado who has disappeared.. her burned car was found a few months ago.
The mother who is missing in Illinois... Her husband is the prime suspect (this is the case where the TV reporter got in trouble for attending a swim party at the suspect's house).

All these cases have been featured nationally and involve white girls/women.

 

This was a 4-year-old little girl, which makes this different.
