They are going to make RBIs great again.

They're not, I don't think. Do you ever even hear RBIs talked about or written about anymore, casually? I don't. I understand their place in a box score, however.

Relatedly, I was looking at the 2001 Cy Young voting totals this weekend, while looking into Mike Mussina's HOF case. Wow, was he robbed. Finished fifth, without a single first-place vote. Should have won it. The only reason he didn't was wins.

Joey Belle would have skated into Cooperstown (and won the 1995 MVP) if he weren't such a cock.

Current players that will be in the Hall of Fame:

    Locks (6):
    Ichiro
    Beltre
    Pujols
    Cabrera
Trout (I know about the 10-year minimum rule)
    Kershaw

Close, but not there yet (5):
    Sabathia
    Beltran
    Cano
    Pedroia
    Verlander

30 and younger, but on Hall trajectory (8):
    Harper
    Posey
    Stanton
    McCutchen
    Altuve
    Machado
    Sale
    Bumgarner

Over 30 (none of these guys are close, but might get in if they play well into their late 30s) (9):

    Votto
    Utley
    Molina
    Hernandez
    Greinke
    Hamels
    Scherzer
    Mauer
    Longoria

    Too early to project (13):
    Andrus
    Freeman
    Arenado
    Rizzo
    Betts
    Lindor
    Correa
    Goldschmidt
    Judge
    Seager
    Bryant
    Kimbrel
    Porcello

I think Votto is closer than you give him credit for, but at first glance that's a pretty good list. I think Cano is probably a lock.

After Pujols and Cabrera, Votto is proably the best hitter on that list. But he's 34 next month and only has 1500 hits and 800 RBI. If we're judging by recent hall of fame standards, that's not enough. But 15 years from now standards might shift.

Good lists. I'm a Sox fan though and I don't think Pedroia is close. He's 33 and sits at 1786 hits. He's not going to approach 3,000 hits. Maybe if he wins another MVP or goes crazy in a postseason, but right now I don't see it. Unless that's what ya meant by close -- as in needs that little iconic thing to push them across and not just compiling stats.

Pedroia doesn't need to get to 3,000 hits to make it in. His numbers look a lot like Barry Larkin, and he only needed less than 2400 hits to make it into the Hall. By close I mean he's at least 75% of the way there - he just needs maybe 5 more healthy, productive years.

Damn it, not before Bobby Grich.

How is Bobby Grich going to get into the Hall?
