Generation gap

Is there a generation gap growing in sports?
I was recently with a group of journalists, some of whom covered MLB when Ken Griffey was a stud or the NBA when Michael Jordan was doing his thing or the NFL when Joe Montana was making it look easy. And almost to a person, they said they felt a disconnection with both today's superstars and younger journalists.
Now granted we were enjoying ourselves over libations, but the conversation was outstandings.
Are others feeling the same way?
