It's too bad we turned one Penn State thread into 40 Penn State threads because they kept getting locked. Because there was some great stuff on those.

I've re-read Happy Valentine's Day and When Did You Know so far. There are great swaths of missing posts on each.

It's as if we're Wooting threads. "Too bad you weren't around from 9:53-11:28. That thread was awesome then."

Missing posts on "When did you know ..."? I don't remember anything controversial about that thread (until, arguably, the end).

    I blame Piotr Rasputin.

I prefer superheroes who always have silver skin. Transforming is so '80s.

    Tale of the Tape:

    Vs.

Colossus (Piotr Rasputin) Silver Surfer (Norrin Radd) Advantage
    Heritage: Soviet Russia Zenn-La Push
Main Power: Transform into nigh-invulnerable steel The Power Cosmic Surfer
Paramour: Katherine (Kitty) Pryde Shalla-Bal Surfer
    Team affiliation: X-Men Defenders Colossus
Strength level: Press more than 100 tons The Power Cosmic Surfer
Movie treatment: Bit player in crappy film Main player in crappy film Push
Other pop culture: Uh . . . . Joe Satriani album Surfer
Main heroic act: Dying to save world from Legacy virus Killing the infant Beyonder Colossus
Main hindrance: Under influence of Juggernaut jewel Stuck on Earth for long time Push

The Power Cosmic trumps anyone who merely fights with strength. Shalla-Bal was an empress, and Surfing with the Alien is seminal.

    4-2-3, the Surfer wins.

Kitty Pryde is hot, and X2: X-Men United was great.

FWIW, I remember "Wizard" magazine doing a cool Top 10 superheroes list many, many years ago. They broke down why each guy on the list would win or lose against the others.
Silver Surfer was No. 1, because he can basically do whatever the hell he wants.
Colossus was nowhere near the list.

(Keep in mind this list is from the late 1990s; a number of these characters have gone through several transformations since then that might result in different outcomes)

Silver Surfer never made sense in the Marvel Universe because he and his enemies were so much more powerful than the Earth-bound heroes. Why would Silver Surfer ever need help from the Fantastic Four?
