So says Scott Van Pelt (who is a Maryland alum):

Williams has a national championship and has been there for 22 years. He deserves his own thread.

And yeah, Goodman had it first, evidently:

    Gary Parrish confirms it:

Anybody I left out, or can we proceed with the thread?

I WANT MY GODDAMN CREDIT YOU D_BING CHUMP

Seriously, who are candidates here? I've heard Mike Brey mentioned. And why are all the DC-area jobs coming open all of a sudden? Does my man Jeff Jones need to watch his back?

    From Parrish:

Coaches widely consider it to be one of the nation's best jobs because of its natural recruiting base.

One of the nation's best jobs? Seriously?

Like one of the top 5? 10?

Parrish has updated his blog with a statement from Williams:

And I've edited the thread title to take away the question mark.

Easily in the top 20...title in recent memory, a lot of NCAAs, big-time conference where it has run with the big dogs, probably the third best program in the ACC (in the last 20 years) following Duke and UNC.

Good luck to an interesting guy. As a UVa grad, I admit to not having warm fuzzies for Williams, but you can't argue he's not a good coach. He seems a lot more honest than Coach K. And anybody who hates the recruiting process as much as he's rumored to is alright by me.

Poin, I'd put it in the top 20 or so jobs, maybe not far out of the top 10. It's the ACC and a school with a proven record of success. Good academic reputation but not oppressively so. And the DC area is loaded with talent, particularly in the Maryland burbs.

Now this is an ACC job Smart would take...

    668 wins

Didn't he coach Michael Adams at BC? I'm getting old.

If I was Butler, I would disconnect the coach's phone line.

Yes. Adams' last year at BC was '85. Williams was there from 82-86.

Not sure why, but I've heard that since Gary is staying on as Associate AD or whatever that there's no way Brey gets the head coach job.

    Lonergan maybe? Stevens?
