Gary Smith probably doesn't read you

Nice to hear from someone who actually read both stories.

 

Why would anyone want to read this story? It's not about the local pro team, State U, the PGA Tour or the big Podunk East vs. Podunk West game? Can you write it up for the community sports page? (/ Ninety percent of the sports editors in this country)

I have more of a problem with the lag time than the fact that Smith chose to write the story. This comes out nine, ten months after the New York Times stuff, the ESPN coverage, etc. It's one thing if they had put it in the year-end issue in December, but it makes no sense in June; it just looks as if SI is out of touch.
