Garry Howard leaving MJS for TSN

Shortly after I witnessed the incident in Sydney, I went to an event at Poynter where Garry spoke. He was outstanding. He was personable, he stayed afterwards and spoke to everyone.

I called a friend who was working at the J-S.

"He seems like he'd be a good guy to work for."

"He's not, but you're not the only one he's fooled."

A year or so later I run into the same friend at the Super Bowl. He takes me to where their longtime NFL writer, who I had never met, was sitting.

He walks up to him and says, "Garry Howard"

The writer completes his sentence and says, "is an embarrassment to journalism" or something like that.

 

You've covered the Olympics and Super Bowls, Mizzou? I had no idea.

 

Yeah, I'm out of the business and I'm bragging.

 

Mizziou, Garry is personable. You're right, he's not an a-hole. But he deserves much better than the anonymous bashing here at SportsJournalists.com.

 

I'm not so sure about that.

 

That would make sense since you know them from one place and I know them from another. Neither of us is wrong.

 

Because life ain't always a bed of roses.

Mizzou, it doesn't work. Just tried it (10:38) and it gives me the oops! page saying it doesn't exist.

 

I cut and pasted it from an earlier thread. Go on Youtube and search Garry Howard.

 

He can't be any worse than the guy who canned me almost 2 1/2 years ago. But if IJAG is ripping him, there must be some smoke near that fire.
