Yeah, they know how to "manage through them".

    Walk the plank, peon.

"...we have been in down cycles before and know how to manage through them."

This won't be cycling back any time soon, Craig.

Perhaps the big shots can continue to use some of their Real Life, Real News initiatives to fix this. Or was that News 2000? Mainstreaming? I can't remember. I just know one of those three was going to reverse the downward spiral.

It's a bit of a bummer to see people getting snarky about Gannett struggling. I know they're far from a perfect company, but it seems to me they've been much less ruthless with layoffs than other companies, and it bodes really poorly for all of us if the biggest newspaper company in American, one with a rep for being .. uh um .. "cost conscious" is losing boatloads of revenue.

And, no, I don't work for a Gannett paper, although I have in the past.

Part of me still thinks some of these newspaper stocks might be a good buy.

Well, there's a part of Mary Todd Lincoln that probably thought "Our American Cousin" was a pretty good play.

    Oh, there'll be a bottom.

But catching falling safes takes considerable skill.

If Gannett folds one of its bigger papers as rumored, that's when the stock should bottom out. That would be a good time to buy.

I think Gannett - and others - will go all-online before they fold any papers. That's the next shoe to drop.

I wish I would have taken all the money I spent on a journalism degree, used it to sell short on a handful of newspaper stocks. I could now take my earnings, by a new house a car, maybe get a jet ski or two, and live comfortably.
