Gannett layoffs

    Looks like over 100 and counting across the country.

    There were layoffs at Gannett's military-oriented publications a couple weeks ago, too.

    It's sad when you read that and the first thought is, "well that's not as bad as it could be."

    Wait a minute. You mean those verticals, blue balls and passion topics didn't do much good either?

    I'm hearing there are layoffs at the Arizona Republic. Don't know any details.

    I recently applied for a position at one of the pagination hubs. Wonder if those positions are being frozen?

    Romenesko source on the Republic: “A pretty substantial round of layoffs.”

    28-year nationally syndicated cartoonist Joe Heller out of Green Bay is slashed.

    It kind of amazes me that there are ANY newspaper cartoonists left.

    31 folks lost their jobs at newspapers in Wisconsin, including Green Bay and Appleton.

    One of my best friends was one of them. I really, really hate Gannett right now.
