Gannett CEO sits home for several months, earns $1.5 million bonus

Gannettblog's Jim Hopkins reports on Gannett's annual filing. CEO Craig Dubow earned a total of $4.7 million, including a $1.5 million bonus, even though he was out for several months after back surgery.

And this comes after 6,000 people were laid off.

 

The 6,000 people laid off is the reason he got the bonus.

 

Why doesn't he just dress up as a pirate, make the employees walk the plank, and then flip open the treasure chest and play with the gold coins? The death of newspapers is actually murder and it's an inside job.

 

When Dubow's surgery was announced, a buddy of mine, who is an executive editor at a Gannett paper, was at lunch with another member of management who said, "I hope he dies." and they both laughed for about five minutes.

 

That is funny.

 

i just laughed for five minutes.

 

There is just no way to pretend Gannett is anything other than a cash machine for the suits now. The product circles the drain and they raid the bank.

 

I could get a lot more worked up over Gannett's crap if I thought there was another major media corporation that was any better. Sadly, from the sounds of it, they're all about the same: a bunch of uncaring, corporate sharks.

 

I chuckled too.
