Yeah, saw that before, it's interesting.

As long as they do the right thing and let the students run it and stay out of it, it might be OK.

Question is, what's the odds of them doing the right thing?

  3. The paper was already a for-profit.. so changes may not be as different as it would be by purchasing an "independent" paper that is backed by the school

Man, I had FSU going to Knight-Ridder in my mock draft.

Call me cynical, but this is a great thing for Florida State j-school students. Now when they graduate, they'll be well-versed in all of the things that take newbies by surprise: corporate b.s., cost-cutting, the never-ending quest for more profit, etc.

Agreed... if you can't learn about life in journalism working for Gannett, you never will

    FSu doesn't have a J-school.
And the student paper had a bit of a conservative bent...Most of the news was about Greek life and FSU football. There were a couple of Bill O'Reilly wanna-be columnists. It will be interesting to see if being bought by the Democrat (which is decidedly liberal) will result in any changes in editorial content.

Will half of the seniors at the paper be downsized the semester before they graduate? :)

You also have to wonder if this will be a good pipeline into a job coming right out of school.

The most interesting aspect of this will be if the Tallahassee Democrat's usual treatment of the Greeks will filter down to the school paper. The Democrat never missed a chance to blow every accusation of date rape out of the water. A lot of it was deserved (because, after all, frat boys are, by definition, young and dumb and drunk) but some of it was simply a bias against rich white frat boys and a desire to rank on them at every chance.
PS: Not a FSU alum nor a member of any frat.

Burt Reynolds has a great quote about Tallahassee women. Can't remember it exactly, but it's funny.
