I'd consider it a badge of honor!
What's better - be up a couple hundred bucks, or bragging rights to your buddies or a message board that you got banned from a book because you won too much?

    Cheers!

I just don't get the whole banning thing in this day of legalized gambling. Back in the day, ok, when you were pretty much restricted to betting in person in Vegas or AC, and a casino boss delivering a face to face message was an understood, if not necessarily acceptable, norm and there was a bit more of the wild west or east coast mafia current to the world of gambling.

But, today, if this is all legit state sanctioned business run by mega-corporations on national websites, why should banning be allowed, short of actual game fixing and the like? Banned because you're winning too much---fuck that. They rake in all the money from the losers, have the vig built in, and consistently turn a profit. Someone's winning too much--sorry, pay the man.

And to all these arbitrage opportunities that have been a hallmark of this great thread, why hasn't anyone thought to have one single odds setting service that provides the same initial odds to each book? Then, at least any variation would be accounted for in that book's action and they would in essence be hedged for those instances. If each book sets their own numbers, well to me they're accepting that they are adding risk to their side for mislaid lines.

Also curious how they might have figured you out, playthrough. Do all these websites share bettor's info? Do you have to provide personal info like address, ssn or the like that they can easily match against. Or track against your computer credentials?

I'm guessing I'll get some solid responses here that will help explain to my uneducated (no sports gambling in my bible belt peach of a state as of yet) and naive mind on this topic.

One other question for the group that I thought I'd put in a separate post for ease of responding. I believe this may have been asked before, but how is the payout process for these legal sportsbooks? Is it pretty much a straightforward transaction request and fulfillment or do they make you jump through hoops with all sorts of restrictions, qualifiers or X dollar bet minimums based on your deposit/bankroll?

I know from some prior experience with some offshore sites, it was definitely not easy, but that was also highly illegal, so I considered that the trade off there.

Just wondering if now for the online services, if it's essentially like walking up to a window at Caesar's in Vegas with a winning ticket in hand.

The books will sometimes sell themselves on better odds, no-juice NFL Sundays and such, so a centralized odds service is a no-go. Though I'm sure each book regularly checks each other to make sure the odds aren't so spread apart that they get arb'ed.

In my case, I'm sure betting patterns raised eyebrows. Didn't always bet round numbers after I used hedging calculators, and at varying amounts. So I probably stuck out a bit. Plus I wasn't afraid to take cash out. Then again, I've found that other books don't care. I guess it just depends on who's running the shop on a given day, like a pit boss.

Payouts are a snap from the major books (i.e., the ones you see advertising on TV). I run accounts through PayPal and get paid within hours. I'm sure the states wouldn't have legalized if there was any issue whatsoever in getting paid.

Long Beach State dismissed their second leading scorer, Michael Carter III, hours before their loss last weekend to UCI. This is a hallmark of the Monson-Beach teams. Someone is always getting dismissed at the end of every season. This team has all the appearances of a dumpster fire. I can't imagine they are giving a great effort today at 3:00 pacific in the first round of the Big West tournament against a CSUN team, who, by all measures, haven't thrown in the towel. I am offering CSUN -2.5 today, for those of you with gambling problems.

Hope you didn't lay a lot. 85-63 for the dumpster fires. Up 20 at the half.

I'm not quitting my day job to become a professional gambler.

I don't want to tread on others' toes here, because I am new to this thread. But wouldn't it be more interesting if more people gave their picks *before* game time? I gave a couple this past weekend (winners, but nobody requoted them). I threw out that stinker yesterday, and rightfully got crap for it.

I mean, I am only betting for shits and giggles, I'd like to see more of what people do before kickoff or tip off. I may throw a couple sheckles on myself.

I put some capital on the Wyoming-San Jose State under today. 151.5 seems really high given the results of the past 10 games for both squads. 2 p.m. EST.

I didn't mean to come off as I was pouncing. Like you, I dabble, do it for shits and giggles as well.

If you are betting on Mark Gottfried’s team as “the stable one” you are doing it wrong.

People want accountability! OK, I'm on under 150.5 for ND/UNC tonight.
