    Genuine would be saying what he did and why it was insensitive.

    He's apologizing for making a stupid mistake. It was an error in judgment. I see nothing wrong with not repeating what he tweeted. It wasn't worth repeating.

    Well, yes, he did: "On Sunday afternoon while watching NFL playoff games, I made a stupid and inappropriate comment on Twitter that referred to Virginia Tech head coach Frank Beamer."

    My sources also say the "response" wasn't unprompted. My understanding is that Dooley doesn't have an especially strong editor and has more leeway than many columnists (and that's saying something.)
