Drafted No. 4 overall by Tampa a few years back and traded to Bears early this season. 26.

    Damn.
I know that doesn't add much but it's about all I can muster here.

Ya, when a 26-year-old dies, especially a pro athlete, that brings up a million questions. Not much on that link. There's not even a story on the Bears Web site. I found out when my brother called from Chicago.

Yeah, Trib has nothing, Sun Times has this brief.

  6. Wow. One of the best college defensive ends I've ever watched.

Reports that it was an apparent heart attack. Probably an undetected heart condition of some kind, I'm guessing. It's frightening that it can happen to people so young, but it does. My brother's best friend dropped dead in his kitchen at age 29 this summer. Couple a heart condition with the weight these guys are forced to carry, and I'm surprised this sort of thing doesn't happen more often, I honestly am.

Only 26... wow. I need to probably go do some cardio work or something.

Slightly off topic, but do you get a supplemental draft pick when one of your players dies? I feel bad saying that for some reason, but I really am curious.

Can you really have a "undetected heart condition" in the NFL? Aren't you prodded, poked and scanned hundreds of times by then?

Yep. And they can still miss things. The ticker is an odd creation.

The heart and the brain are two things that will never be completely figured out, no matter how advanced science becomes.

His hometown paper all over it: cardiac arrest due to enlarged heart.
