But didn't Georgia reject a law that would have made a change to the existing law retroactive?

I'm fairly certin there's a clause in the state constitution prohibiting retroactive legislation.

I wonder how many other convicted sex offenders will be released from Georgia prisons based on this decision? Probably all of them are as innocent as deserving as this cause celeb du'jure.

Just when you geniunely think you've heard someone say the dumbest thing it's possible to say, along comes someone on here to jump three feet past the line.

  11. I'm actually from/live in the county where this case originated. Yeah, the AG took the original prosecutor's side on this one, which is odd to me given that the AG is a Dem and the same race as Wilson (just sayin'). But the local DA is really the dick in all of this (as if that hasn't been stated enough times). The county has always wanted to look tough on crime and juries here have a reputation for handing down really harsh sentences. But Jay Bookman did a great column in the AJC on the DA and how he should have been prosecuted for distributing tapes of the sex acts to the media etc. a month or two again. Bookman used the DA's own logic against him, saying that it is illegal to distribute child porn and that the feds in this case should just follow the law and prosecute the DA the same way he did Wilson.

Anyway, justice was served. We need a new DA ... this guy has been in trouble with sexually harassing women in his office in the past and has always come across as an prick.
