Dear EDITORS:

Effective May 29, The Associated Press will change the coding in story slugs for track and field from RUN to ATH. The AP also has standardized some less-frequently-used codings. The list of sports slugs appears below.

The day I see something slugged RGU, that's going to be a very interesting day.

 

I've seen many, many stories that should have been slugged "BAD", that had nothing to do with badminton.

Personally, I would have gone with "BDM."

Has anyone ever seen a BBL slug, outside of spitned's first night as agate clerk when they wouldn't move that damn Rockford-Racine box?

 

They really should change the slug for boxing to something else. Every time I type "BOX" looking for a story on De la Hoya or his ilk, I get half a dozen MLB box scores ...

And forget about getting what you need when you type in "CAR." You're better off typing in "NASCAR" or "IRL" or whatever ...

 

Add -- after each of those three-letter acronyms. You'll get the right thing every time.

 

What about ATM?

 

I have never before seen BBH. That's actually a surprise, to me.
