Loved the movie. I agree it's one of the best of the year. In any other year, Sheen would win the Best Supporting Actor Oscar.

I still think Langella could win Best Actor. Penn was probably better in Milk and Eastwood was essentially playing the same character he always does in Gran Torino. Depending on how Pitt is in Benjamin Button, I'm guessing those four will be the frontrunners for Best Actor nominations.

    Eastwood has no shot.

I still have to see it, but I'm guessing:

    1. Rourke
    2. Penn
    3. Langella

    Rest are afterthoughts

I'll bet Eastwood gets nominated, even if he doesn't deserve it. I'd love to see Rourke win even though I haven't seen The Wrestler yet. I hope it's as good as everyone says.

I get chills when he says, "'90s sucked."

Haven't seen it yet, but one immediate quibble: Langella is way too tall to pass for Nixon (6-4 vs 5-11).

But, unless there are a lot of scenes with Nixon towering majestically over the room, they can probably work around it. From the clips I've seen, he certainly has most of Tricky Dicky's mannerisms down.

The one guy DOES say "He's taller than I had imagined."

Richard Jenkins should be one of the noms, too.

Saw this on Broadway in its initial incarnation and it was so good that I'm almost not sure I want to see the movie. The sparse set and lighting drew everything down to the evolving relationship between Frost and Nixon and totally created the atmosphere. I'm just glad they kept Langella, who, at least in person, nailed Nixon.

Those words were never spoken by Frost or Nixon.. Made up for the movie.

    Or possibly for the play.

    Nevertheless, that's what stands out.

Actually, Alma, the money quote -- "If the president does it..." - is very close to the actual transcript, which you can find here. The rest seems dramatized. And that phone call in the middle of the night never happened.

Much better movie than I thought it would be.
Michael Sheen is two-for-two -- Tony Blair in The Queen -- with real life Brits.
