    It's relevant in that ... shit happens. Who's to say he doesn't stay in an institution for 20 years, cleans up, good behavior, the severity of his crime is forgotten, and no doctor can judge him to be insane anymore? He probably won't get tried after all that time. Are they then going to keep him in the institution? Probably not. He'll get set free. Wouldn't be terribly uncommon.
