Dated May 27, 2006, as the ultra-liberal NYT decides this information would be useful to voters 18 months after the election.

Chris: Of these three - George H.W. Bush, John Kerry, George W. Bush - which two actually shipped out to a war zone in time of war? Your moralizing jiu-jitsu begins and ends there. And I'll give you extra credit for not invoking Bill Clinton - the only other American president of whom you've ever heard, apparently - in your answer.

To be fair . . . most of the evidence came from Kerry, and he did not begin meticulously exposing all the lies until after the election. He really did not have time in the three months before the election. And he spent half that time going back and forth as to whether he should hit back or just do nothing. Neither the NYT nor anyone else was going to be able to debunk the Swift Boat Liars so effectively before the election. The blindsided attack came early enough to affect the election, but late enough as to prevent anyone from exposing the lies. Another feather in the GOP's cap.

Hey, anyone who has the confidence in Fredo to want to go to war under his leadership, be our guest. They'll be delighted to see you, at the recruiting office. You want two tours, three, or four?

    Ciao.

Not taking up Chris' cause, because I think this is a dumb-as-shit debate. But didn't George H.W. Bush serve in WWII combat?

Off-topic: What does that sidesaddle represent, Ragu?

JG, I misread. I thought you said one, when you said two. I knew Kerry had served in Vietnam. Was pretty sure Bush Sr. had in WWII. Sorry bout that.

Dooley, No idea what the sidesaddle represents. I like to think it's a visual representation of man's inability to keep the moral law. But maybe it's just a really, really sad (and possibly hungry) little kid.

Dooley, Serious answer... Photographer's name is Jill Greenberg. The photo was entitled "The Truth." It was part of an exhibit of photos of kids a few years ago. I think she wanted to make the point that our kids are fucked: it was a statement about the religious right, the current administration, our attitudes toward the environment, etc. Honestly, though, I just like her photos.

  12. Yep. Fighter pilot.
Oops, my father would be pissed.
    Naval aviator.
I believe that he lied about his age to enlist, although I could be misremebering that part.
No problem with Poppy's attitude toward public service, except that he lied his ass off about Iran-Contra.
