    Exactly, Pope.

This guy is going to get the faintest whiff of what hard work running for president is and he's going to run for the fucking hills.

These things are going to start coming out more and more, methinks.

The machine will chew up Fred Thompson and spit him out.

Ladies and gentlemen, your 2008 GOP nominee is Rudolph Giuliani. Book it.

He does seem to be the leader by default at this point. McCain is done and no one else is even close to ready for prime time...

How DID McCain blow it so badly?

Remember the day he hugged Bush on stage WAY back when?

That was the beginning of the end for McCain.

His only chance at being president was running as a maverick, a reformer, a Goldwater-style, western Republican. And he sold it well the last time around, but he got crushed by Rove's money, organization and dirty tricks.

He's trying to sell integrity, and it just isn't working. And policy-wise, no one wants to hear more of the same right now, especially not from a candidate who's 70-some years old. See Dole, Bob.

If he had told GW to pound sand in 2001, who knows? Might have been a long six years in the wilderness. But at least he'd have a shot right now.

Likewise, perhaps you've heard a bit about a war effort that's been an abject clusterfuck run by incompetent fools who have lost it with no chance of the successes first dreamed of, and which he still supports entirely. Yes, he tepidly called for some changes here and there, which were finally made, but just ask the guys on the comcast phone service what too little too late means.
