And there is the matter of Trammell being viewed as the 1987 MVP in many eyes, which would make him equal to Larkin there.

Why? Ryan Braun was the best player in the National League in 2011. This isn't about steroids. Greg Maddux had one of the best performances ever in 1995, going 19-2 with a 1.63 ERA, 10 complete games (three shutouts) and 7.87 strikeouts per walk while being the ace for the best team in the NL in a strike-shortened season.
