I feel fortunate to have grown up in Massachusetts in a 'Golden Age' of Boston sports. Not only were the teams good (except for the Patriots at that time), but the play-by-play announcers were unique. Ken Coleman, Ned Martin and Jon Miller on the Red Sox, Johnny Most on the Celtics, Gil Santos on the Pats, Fred Cusick, Don Earle and Bob Wilson on the Bruins. No wonder I grew up (arguable) to become a sportswriter, and then a sportscaster!

Some of my favorite memories were of riding back-and-forth to Boston in the back of our family station wagon, watching and listening to Cusick call the B's on a battery-operated black-and-white tv. Those memories will never fade. RIP, Fred.
