I'm sure if he was a Democrat you wouldn't jump to his defense by saying he's NOT a pedophile, only a sick pervert.

I'm sure you wouldn't do that. Guaranteed.

The truth is the truth, whether it's a Democrat or a Republican. I seek the truth; nothing more, nothing less.

Again, if you really need to say I look bad because you made an error, go ahead. Anything I can do to help you feel better about yourself.

The point is, a news organization making pretensions about being reputable doesn't pull snarky shit like that. That was the only issue in play as this thread began.

Dooley, the thing was on an opinion and entertainment show, not a straight newscast. If you want to hold Hannity and Colmes to that standard because it's on Fox, then I'm sure you also want to strip all columnists of many of the quips and sarcastic comments in their arsenal, too, right?

I'm not sure where this turned into me feeling better for myself, or me needing to make you look bad. I feel good, thanks. Not sure how you look.

I'm, again, just pretty damn confident that one of the board's most ardent Republicans would not be so quick to correct the terminology used to describe a Democrat who just had a Foley-sized debacle.

  6. Like just about every other political thread, it's just a matter of whose ox is being gored. That's why I try to stay out of these anymore.

Again, you have trouble with the idea that the truth is the truth. If someone refers to Gerry Studs as a pedophile, I'll be glad to step in and correct them, since his (apparently much more OK) transgressions were with a 17-year-old page. Find some thread somewhere where a Democrat went after a 17- or 18-year-old and was called a pedophile and I'll be glad to jump in with the correction.

And another problem with your hypothetical, BYH, is there will never be a Democrat who has a Foley-sized debacle. The reason? Democrats will excuse him/her and the national media will make sure it's never reported as a major story and dropped as soon as possible. Or the media will come out and defend his/her multiple felonies during the coverups and tell the country it's time to move on and for said person to go to work for the American people.

    You're completely crazy.

You're not really pulling out the liberal media bias thing again, are you?

You poor Republicans. So outmanned and picked on the last six years. Everyone's been against you guys. Nothing Bush has done has gone unchecked. The most secretive presidency of all-time is running amuck and you guys find something to complain about.

Liberal media bias. That's funny. Poor little Republicans.

Gotta back you on this one, BYH.... doubt you'd see most conservatives on this board back a dem in the same situation

    You CANNOT be serious.

I've seen Bill Clinton called a "child molester" a thousand times for having consensual sex with a 22-year-old, for crying out loud.

    Not. Even. Close.

    1. The opinion of Hannity (or a columnist) is his alone. When you pull a stunt like "Sandy Burglar", it makes it the opinion of the entire network. That's why you don't see photoshopped images on an op-ed page (Bush in a Nazi uniform or Clinton "partying" with a porn star.

    2. Since misidentifying someone (for laughs) is standard operating procedure on an "opinion" show, I'm sure you will have no trouble providing me with instances where any of the following people were lampooned in their identification:

    Tom DeLay
    Duke Cunningham
    Bob Ney
    Donald Rumsfeld
    Jack Abramoff

    Tick . . . tick . . . tick . . .

There's a massive difference in what you do with copy or commentary and what you do with heds or graphics. You have to be more circumspect in those because of their starkness and largeness.

    Look BT,

I think you are blowing this out of perportion.

In full disclosure I am a big time conservative & love Fox News Channel. That being said I think ppl are WAY overplaying the hyper partisan card in this country and some things are so much more simple then that.

    Here is the deal:

1.) Hannity & Colmes IS an opinion show. I listen to Sean's radio show when possible and watch H&C when I have time (typically late night reruns). Sandy Burglar is Sean's shtick. He has used that line repeatedly. This sells with conservatives (like me) that think what SB did was really bad & harming the 9/11 commission (and the country) from getting the truth about what happened in the Bush AND Clinton admins. No matter how you spin that SB and other's in the Clinton Admin did NOT want that to happen. Heck, look at the massive protest and whining at The Path to 9/11.

Look, on a side-note do you really believe this problem (Al Queda & terrorism) just magically showed up at the beginning of Bush's term? That is just nuts. Clinton basically ignored and tiptoed around the problem & that is just the truth. Many on the left don't want to confront terrorism at all. That is not to say Bush is right in his approach all the time & certainly not in execution.

The dirty little secret is this is going to be a long and messy global war. There are no easy solutions. I am afraid you can't sit down and "talk" and have tea with Iran, Hammas, Syria, Hezbollah, Arafat, Hitler, Stalin?, Chavez?, Castro?, etc. and believe you will solve anything, I wish you could. Many people don't want to face up to that.

I think we should try to talk at all times, even to enemies, I think we need more diplomacy and options, but at the end of the day you have to be willing to act.

Unfortunately, the history of man could also be a histroy of war and conflict. While that is lamentable it is also true. One may say it is human nature or even the human condition (Hobbes). Now while you and I may wish that to change...I am not holding my breath that is is changing "on our watch". So, the best way to ensure peace and safety for our families is to always be prepared for war, while also showing our enemies a better opportunity for all through cooperation (or at least coexistence).

The problem with the anti-war crowd is there are wars that need to be fought.

Also remember that often the best diplomacy can only happen when your enemy knows you WILL act (ala Ronald Reagan). That is another dirty little secret.

Same thing in my business when you are willing to go "all in" if you will, and really fight the battles...it is amazing how things start to happen & people become much more rational and are willing to deal & deals get closed/settled (why do you think I have my reputation for getting deals done?).

Anyway, back to FN & H&C

So, relax it is an opinion show. No different the Keith Olberman on MSNBC going crazy EVERY day (calling Bush & McCain the "worst people on earth", etc., etc., etc.). You don't see me flipping out over that. It is fine. It is an opinion show and he is appealing to his audience & the networks hard left tilt - no problem.

Same thing with Chris Matthews (who is virulently anti-war). Chris I will watch as he can be good and have solid guests, KO I won't as he is just banal.

Right, so Fox is working their demo in an opinion show, just as is MSNBC for their's and the rest do the same - no big deal.

Obviously, it is working for Fox since they lead cable news & have for a while.

Same with Rush. no matter what you think of Rush's show or politics that guy is the best radio talk show host....EVER - hand's down NO CONTEST. Rush is enormously talented and is also quite funny. You may not like him but you should respect his talent.

It is too bad that he is not on TV more and too bad that ESPN freaked out as he knows sports and was a good add to the mix & got them ratings.

That is part of the problem people taking things too seriously like this non issue.

Oh BTW CNN has had many real "mistakes" via Bush's live speech's, etc. Now that is actually wrong.

But look, the sky is not falling & the world in not ending I think the audience is smart and those tactics don't work in the end & can backfire.

    John
