This is a very good friend of mine. We started at the student paper at the U of Delaware together back in the early-to-mid 1990s. He's an excellent guy, a hard-nosed, old-school journalist, and if you believe prayer works, he sure could use some right now ...

Misheberach for Brian (if he's City Paper, he won't mind cross-cultural).

    This is just awful.

Hopefully they find the jerk who did this, and more importantly, hopefully your friend comes out of this okay.

I just wanted to follow that Brian's friends are holding a fundraiser for his family on Dec. 12. I posted the info on my blog at: http://jeffpearlman.com/?p=913

This is a truly tragic story ... am having a hard time getting along in the wake of this. Ugh.

What a horrible, horrible story. Can't imagine the horror his friends and family are going through.

How terribly sad. I'll say a word as I hit my knees this morning.

    Be strong, Jeff.
