    Melissa Juergensen of CTV is confirming a breaking news story from TSN that former NHL coach Pat Burns has died after years of battling cancer. No link has been posted yet.

    Heard last night he was in very bad shape. The man put up on hell of a fight against an insidious disease.
    RIP

    And I sgree 100% with Double J. This does not belong to be lost on the NHL thread.

    CTV Ottawa apparently reported that he had died, then retracted. CBC reporting Burns' son says his dad is still alive.

    TSN's Bob McKenzie is having a field day with the erroneous reports. Via Twitter (@TSNBobMcKenzie):

    This from a member of the Burns family: "Pat is surprised to learn he's dead." Pat Burns, as of this moment, is still alive.

    Pat Burns just called me Seriously. Here's what he said. "Here we go again. They're trying to kill me before I'm dead...
