The cool way to impress strippers is to give them body parts from cadavers

NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. (AP) - A man has escaped serious punishment for cutting the hand off a dead body -- and then giving it to a stripper that he befriended, as a gift.

Ahmed Rashed, 27, pleaded guilty last month to a reduced charge of third-degree theft. On Mar. 1, he was siven a suspended sentence of 15 months of unsupervised probation and a $5,000 fine. If he violates the probation, he could spend five years in prison.

A medical resident, Rashed is prohibited from seeking a license to practice medicine in New Jersey while he is on probation.

Rashed apparently cut the hand off a cadaver and gave it to Linda Kay, 31, a stripper, during one of his visits to the club where she worked. He got to know her while he was a first-year medical student in 2002. She wanted a cadaver's hand, authorities said, and he complied.

Authorities said the hand was found in a jar on Kay's dresser in her South Plainfield home last summer. Friends have said she called it 'Freddy.'

In court, Rashed apologized for his actions, saying he "meant no harm" and that he has outgrown the immaturity he displayed.

"It does not excuse the action," he said.

Rashed removed the hand from a fully dissected cadaver at the University of Medicine and Dentistry in Newark, N.J. that was scheduled for cremation, and was unaware that what he did was illegal.

I like how he justified stealing the hand by saying he didn't know it was illegal. Apparently, he never considered, you know, the moral implications of such an action.

Hey, you've got to hand it to the guy --- he tried to get a grip on an idea for an unusual, yet memorable, gift and found it within his grasp. It wasn't much of a reach; all he did was let his fingers do the walking. I just hope he avoided any manual labor and didn't get any hand-me-downs as a gift for her.

This is the most original idea I've heard of in years. Hands down.
