And Penelope Cruz gets naked, so there's that.

I retract my earlier statement then. I must have fallen asleep cause I don't recall that.

I forgot it, but it should be on there.

Also, I'd recommend the documentary Burden of Dreams as a companion piece to Fitzcarraldo.

I forgot about 'Volver.' I really love that movie.

Surprised The Seventh Seal hasn't been mentioned yet. Great film more known for its imagery in pop culture than the story itself, but it's a great story.

Another excellent Bergman film is Persona.

If you prefer your foreign films to be titled with just one letter, it's hard to go wrong with either M or Z.

Thank you! We have the same taste in films, it seems. I truly though Aguirre was one of the worst films I'd ever seen, then just looked around online and saw it getting rave reviews. To each his own.

I loved Volver, and I'm a pretty big fan of Almodovar in general.

As a huge, sloppy fan of Fellini, I owe it to il maestro and the universe to ask you 'why?'

A million percent this! About as good a contemplation of fate vs. volition as you could hope to see. Also:

    --Dead-End Drive-In (Australian)
    --Spetters (Dutch, I think)
    --Shirley Valentine (English)

I will third a nomination for the Triplets of Belleville and a second for Incendie. You will get to piece together what is happening just before the main characters and will be totally WTF--such a plot twist at the end.

I will add Congorama to the list. It is a French language film (not sure if it's Belgium or Quebec) that centers around two half-brothers who happen to stumble upon each other.

among those I forgot (and there are many) which deserve mention

L'Auberge Espagnol (French production and star, but really a pan-European effort)
The Good, the Bad and the Weird (South Korea)
