    I can't stomach Hicks.

The Tiger factor aside (and who thought he’d win the Masters?) a major win should count for about gazillion points.

Players are going to play their schedules. It wouldn’t make them play less. Too much coin to be made.

Last year's Tour winner, winners of the four majors, the Players -- and the next top whatever players in season-long points you need to fill 20 total spots -- ought to have a free pass to Atlanta. Plus, a cash bonus for avoiding the playoffs.

Then play regular 144-man fields at New York and Chicago and the top five in each event complete the field (playoff in case of ties). Just like a U.S. Open qualifier. No freaking double-double bonus points and resets. And no more breathless Dan Hicks.

That, or just end the season with a second Tour of Champions-type event at East Lake. Win and you're in. What's so hard about that?

Sample error. It’s at a golf course bar.

So the Tour has found out one HUGE problem with its changed schedule. Atlanta weather. Delay yesterday, postponed today. Six spectators injured by lightning. August thunderstorms in Atlanta are like March nor'easters here in New England. Utterly predictable. All they need is for a Monday morning finish. That'll make FedEx, Coke and NBC real happy.

PGA: Lets move the PGA championship out of August - too damn hot. Tour: Great idea, we'll move the Tour Championship up and play it in Atlanta.

No way any of them would be stupid enough to be callous enough to complain given what occurred.

Too much rain and/or thunderboomers? They probably get away with griping. But after a lightning strike injures six spectators, they wouldn't be ignorant enough to go there, would they?

I'm not talking about public complaining. Just some nice polite memos from corporate to the Tour saying maybe the August finish needs to be rethought.

So I checked the scores to check on how the new (IMO ridiculous) head start scoring system affected the Tour Championship's scoring vis a vis a regular tournament. Answer was, so far not that much. New system's scoring leader Koepka is up by one over Schauffle. In a regular tourney, he'd be tied 4th, 2 shots back of Schauffle, Casey and McIlroy, all of whom could easily win today under the new system. Only major change is Thomas. He'd be nine shots back and up the track if it weren't for the head start he got.

The crowd was pretty good but what a contrast from the year before when Tiger won (which they showed yesterday during the delay) when they were simply batshit.
