This actually broke Monday and I was surprised nothing had been mentioned here (and I searched three or four different phrases to check).

Gary Gaines, the coach from Friday Night Lights, is expected to be named head football coach at Odessa Permian.

There was a lot of hullabaloo when he returned to Odessa as athletic director for the school district four years ago. I can only imagine how some of the people in that town are reacting to this.

 

By putting For Sale signs in his front yard, probably.

I covered one of his teams once. Such a great guy ... kind of like your grandpa .... although, I was surprised to learn years later that most of the players on the team I covered hated his ass.
