This would be enjoyable if we didn't re-visit it every single year.

Then find a better April Fools story, and I will change the thread title.

You can't top perfection. It was perfectly done, perfectly played and they waited awhile to let people in on the joke.

With all due respect to friends at the Chicago Tribune, there has to be bigger 1A news than a full page story/photo of the guy who posed for the Sidd Finch photo in the SI story, who happened to be from Chicago. No one wants to see an unknown guy in a METS jersey on Opening Day in Chicago, on the front page of the Trib.

If anyone can post the page, or explain its existence, please do.

Is this the 25th anniversary? I thought the story came out in 1985.

oh, lighten up, francis. this was the DEFINITIVE 'april fool's piece,' perfectly executed, by everyone's dream sports mag, at the very height of its powers. there wasn't a sports journo alive whose dream wasn't to one day become the next frank deford (congrats to gary smith and s.l. price for living the dream, by the way), and the way 'sidd finch' became instantly synonymous with 'gotcha!' is all the evidence required to support the case. and with every passing year, i guarantee you there are newbies here and journo students EVERYWHERE who are introduced to the 'legend' every april 1.
