If you love statistics, and have a strong knowledge of the rules and policies statisticians follow for various sports, send me an email.

Every offensive touchdown counts as a first down, regardless of where it came from.

No, it doesn't, at least not in college and high school. Touchdowns scored in "and-goal" situations do not count as first downs.
Article 1. A first down shall be recorded whenever the yardsticks are ordered
forward and/or when a touchdown is scored from scrimmage (rushing or pass-
ing) within a series of downs starting from 10 yards or more from the goal line,
or when a dead-ball foul results in an automatic first down (see Section 1, Article
6).
Let us all just pray we don't - ever - have to score a 13-lateral play at the end of a game.

As long as you had video, it really wouldn't be all THAT hard. Just keep track of the forward progress of the ball. If someone takes it to the 33, and it gets thrown backwards a couple times, that doesn't affect the yardage. Once someone carries it to the 33, start the count again.

Of course, if you didn't have video, forget it.

What about penalty yards on a dead-ball personal foul after a touchdown? The yardage is marked off on the PAT, and PAT penalties don't count as far as yardage. But the penalty itself didn't happen on the PAT.

Actually, penalty yardage does count on PATs. Not sure how that rumor got started.
A.R. 3. Team A’s extra-point attempt is unsuccessful, but Team B is off-
side and the ball is moved from the three- to the 1 1/2-yard line (half the
distance to the goal) for another attempt. Charge Team B with a penalty
of two yards.
A.R. 4. Team A’s extra point is successful, but Team A is offside and the
ball is moved from the three- to the eight-yard line for another attempt.
Charge Team A with a penalty of five yards.
A.R. 5. Team A’s extra-point attempt is successful, but Team B is called for
unsportsmanlike conduct. On the ensuing kickoff, Team A kicks off from its
45-yard line instead of its 30. Charge Team B with a penalty of 15 yards.

How do rumors get started? They're started by the jealous people.

Really, though, if penalties do count on PATs, do stats count or is it just another myth that they don't? Doesn't seem like it'd make sense for penalty yardage to count if rushing or passing stats do not.

I think this has been covered before, but here goes.

On a blocked punt does the punter receive the yardage on where it lands? No matter if it is positive or negative yards? For example, little Jimmy had his punt blocked and it was recovered 10 yards behind the line of scrimmage. Does little Jimmy get a punt reading 1-(-10)?

A blocked punt is a TEAM punt for 0 yards. The person who blocks the punt gets credit for a punt return and the net yardage.

Whoops, had that wrong this week.

What if the punting team recovers the blocked punt, though?

Another punting question: Team A punts and it goes straight up. Team B players are ordered to stay away, but then some yahoo dives in touches it and Team A recovers. Is that a fumble on Team B?
