Football stat help ... need help quick

Discussion in 'Sports and News' started by RedHotChiliPrepper, Sep 14, 2007.

  1. Thanks in advance folks.

On the opening kickoff tonight, return guy has ball bounce off his chest, never caught it cleanly. Kicking team recovers.

Is this considered a fumble or just a muff?

    I believe it's a muff.

  4. Thanks folks, that's what I thought, but we questioned here whether you could muff a kickoff.

Muffed kick recovered by the kicking team.

Wouldn't it be muffed return recovered by the kicking team?

Is a muff an actual football stat? Wouldn't this be logged as a fumble?
How do you account for the change of possession? I'm asking because I really don't know.

I'd think so. It has to be a turnover. A muff, but a turnover.

Would not be a turnover, because receiving team never had possession.
