    This is not a judgment or a sexist comment, I'm just curious. Was anyone else taught as a child that only girls and [homosexual men] use straws to drink beverages? I am just curious how rare or common my life experience was.

    Never heard that one before, SoCal.

    I don't like using straws because I like to take big, easy gulps out of a cup/glass.

    I recall hearing something about ladies using straws so as to not mess up lipstick, but never in a pejorative sense like that.

    I tried the apple thing. I got to a point where I abandoned the suggested method for the traditional side attack. It's not like the core disappears. I couldn't make myself take that next bite to see just how edible it might be.
