It is really odd that Romney decided to forego a re-election campaign. But hey, this is the GOP we are talking about, ol' Mitt didn't want to have TOO much public service experience.....

Bachmann's numbers dropped the second they got out of Iowa.

It seems like for any of these Great Tea Party Hopes, the numbers crater once the candidates are out of the Tea Party hothouse and are exposed to light and fresh air. Meaning, whenever they open their mouths in front of an audience that's not full of adoring worshipers. The professional right and Tea Party moneybags so badly do not want Romney as a candidate, instead hoping there is some easily malleable, shameless asskicker on their behalf (I can't believe none of them have drafted the epitome of this model, Scott Walker). And yet, the actual voters, those dumb bastards, keep rejecting their choices for president. I would expect nothing to be different with Chris Christie.

In some way, it's heartening that money and Koch Brothers support alone do not an instant President make. Funny thing is, if, say, Rick Perry wasn't forcibly shoved in our faces as the Great Tea Party Hope, he might have had a shot. Obama, early on, wasn't exactly the most adept debater, either. But his popularity grew organically, over time. It's a shame the Koch Brothers and their like can't get out of the way and let Republican candidates actually have a learning curve.

Right, because a BLACK man could NEVER actually be smart enough to get to the point Cain has gotten to on his own merits, right? You are probably the biggest racist on these boards.

    Re Christie:

Anyone else worried about a governor unilaterally dismantling lawful tax code because he feels like it?

What "point" has he gotten to?

He's the GOP's house boy, their attack dog, their designated "angry black man."

He's being allowed to hang around because at some point he can use the word about Obama none of the rest can. He'll work himself up into his "angry black man" routine and let it fly.

Once "the word" is out there, we will have a couple days of faux horrification, a couple more days of earnest Faux concern-troll discussion, "why does the libburral media say it's OK for angry young rappers to use this word but it isn't for whites, if Obama can't take it he should get out of the kitchen," etc etc., and then "the word" will be out there for all of them to use -- exactly what they've been dreaming about since the early 1960s.

    That's what he's there for.

I'd take Cain's "pride" in not being "tainted by public service" a little more seriously if he hadn't attempted to be "tainted" in 2000 and 2004 only to be rejected by voters.
Kind of like Olbermann bragging about being on Current - "finally free from corporate media's shackles."

Watts left politics because when he sought a House leadership position, he was told to go somewhere else...away from the table where the big decisions were being made (to phrase it in PC fashion).
I'm surprised she hasn't been mentioned in three pages, but this is opening up just the way Palin prays for. Bachmann flamed out. Perry is in the process of flaming out. The hard right is "Herman, we like you as a friend." (Rush is trying to show his PC bona fides after the Donovan McNabb incident, but would he really back Cain if he becomes a top-tier contender?) Romney's not picking up the people having buyer's remorse about Perry.
