Four years' probation, scholarship losses and possible vacation of wins in 10 sports, including football, baseball and men's basketball:

Obviously, this affects the all-time record for coaching victories:

If they weren't banned from TV or postseason play, they weren't "hammered." Those are the only penalties that really get anybody's attention.

Maybe you're right, but reducing Bowden's win total has got to sting.

"Thirty-one of Bobby's 'victories' were at piddly little I-AA Samford anyway," Joe Paterno scoffs. :D

While we're on the subject, the story I posed uses "vacate" and "forfeit" interchangeably — they're not the same thing.

Forfeits count as losses (and victories for the opponent). Vacated wins are treated as if the game was never played.

The NCAA began making that distinction a few years ago, starting with the Oklahoma/Rhett Bomar summer job case, I believe.

I think Villanova vacted it second place finish during the Howard Porter days.

And it looks as if FSU will only lose 6 or 7 football schollies total over a 3 year span. And just one in men's basketball.
Again, don't think 'hammered' is the right word here.

In regards to the vacate/forfeit wording, does that mean that the losses don't count either? So instead of going 7-6 in 2007, FSU was 0-0?

Does Jimbo Fisher even want to be the coach in waiting now?

OK, I changed the thread title.

And chill, no, they don't 'lose' the losses — nor do the teams they beat — the victories just don't count. It's like they went 0-6, I guess.

As a JoePa fanboy, I'm happy to hear this news. Vacate those wins!

When Southern Cal gets investigated and loses scholarships and wins because of Reggie Bush, then I will take these things seriously.

It's a sham when the USCs and Notre Dames can get away with close to murder because they're the media darlings.

    And FSU isn't?
