    Well, I thought it all fit neatly under the "usage in the face of non-traditional typographical style" umbrella. But it's always me who ends up getting wet.

    Correct. There's absolutely no need for anyone to capitalize Fox in any context when referring to the broadcasting company and its many spinoff channels. There may be an inclination to do so because its main network counterparts use letters (NBC, ABC, CBS), but Rupert Murdoch's television empire is indeed Fox. It's even pronounced that way, not F-O-X. Yet it appears in print in all-caps far too often.

    Didn't mean to threadjack, but the example was raised. So if it makes some editor or writer stop to think about why they write things a certain why -- or should -- it's worth it.
