Flooding in Boulder

Rocky Mountain National Park is closed, so there's no getting out of Estes. And the flooding will continue headed north and east along the South Platte. The number of those unaccounted for certainly will go higher as access into the shut-off mountain towns reopens, so this really could be even more astounding for a loss-of-life standpoint.

No doubt, the scope of this is just incredible.

Just broke my heart to see this photo. Town of Salina, up Four-mile Canyon. First the fires, now this. Just... gone. pic.twitter.com/hknhXrTsDe

Story of two of the deaths. A teenaged couple.

This has been so heartbreaking and I'm afraid it's only going to continue to get worse.

Number of those now unaccounted for -- meaning they have not been in touch with relatives since the flooding began -- is up to 172.

Northern Colorado remains cut off from Denver and the rest of the state by the rivers flowing into the South Platte, which is swelling by the second.

Chinook and Black Hawk helicopters have been brought in to rescue people.

Flows along the Big Thompson River have surpassed those from the 1976 disaster.

We found out tonight in the newsroom that the young woman, Wiyanna Nelson, was a former resident in our parts and we were able to get together a front page story on it. Sad story all around.

Up to 218 unaccounted for. Rescues continue. More rain in the forecast. Boulder goes under a flash flood watch starting at noon through Sunday.

Boulder sheriff: "We're assuming there may be further loss of life or injury."

Word is Highway 34 -- from Loveland to Estes Park, where the great Big Thompson Flood of 1976 occurred -- is virtually wiped out, that 17 miles of road need to be replaced.

One presumed dead in the canyon and they expect there could be more. Estes Park still virtually isolated. Hope they figure out a decent enough route there before winter.

Yeah because you can't go west. And no doubt the death toll is going to to up. Unreal.

More storms hitting today. Huge cells south and east of Denver and moving toward downtown.
