Flip flopper! McCain announces Troop Withdrawal Timeline

Discussion in 'Sports and News' started by andyouare?, May 15, 2008.

  1. There is absolutely no chance that McCain's people will let him within 100 miles of this idea.
This is Crazy Old John running his mouth again.

The Post's lead leads with a statement that cannot be squared with anything Barry O'Bama has said:

Sen. John McCain will pledge this morning that the Iraq war can be won

Right there, a sufficient differentiation from the Democrat(ic) talking points to suit me.

The win part is nonsense, if "terrorists" are the enemy.

We can maintain a deterring presence in Iraq, indefinitely, if we're willing to pay the fearsome price. Absolutely.

But will that, in and of itself, defeat Islamic terrorism?

    Nuckin' futz.

Of course it can be won in McCain's mind. He believes it's a war against al Qaeda.

Unfortunately for him, the war in Iraq was never a war against al Qaeda.

It's been proven hard for many to make that modest connection.

What's a win? Define it. In no uncertain terms.

Also, Al Qaeda and Iraq had nothing to do with each other. And now it's to the point where the head of AQ in Iraq isn't even worth shit, per our own government. Every time McCain talks about Al Qaeda and Iraq together he needs to be called on it. In 2003 they didn't have anything to do with each other. And they barely do now either.

Uhm, did you forget to use the blue font or did you just wake up from a five-year nap?

Quite serious. If the last seven years has shown us anything, it's that fighting a military war against an opponent with no nation is an exercise in futility. Sure, we may eventually be able to put Iraq back together on our own terms. It won't have a damn thing to do with curbing the threat of terrorism.

The only way to effectively fight terrorism is to hand it over to law enforcement domestically and the intelligence community internationally with special forces for targeted operations.

Make sure you know damn well who is coming into your country and what they're doing once they get here. Then do your best to take out terrorist infrastructure when you have the opportunity, whether they're in Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan or wherever.

My bad -- I assumed there were some bits of sarcasm that were so clear they didn't require blue fonts......

I may not agree with most of you on well most anything when it comes to politics, but one thing we can all agree on is that this war has no merits, not one, well other than it massaged the ego of a certain family from Texas......
