Forgot to mention that before ... yep, that's still going on: http://www.riolasvegas.com/casinos/rio/casino-misc/sapphire-pool-detail.html

I can't believe so many people are willing to go to downtown at night. I lived in Vegas for two years (moving back in two weeks) and never went downtown at night. If you stay under the canopy on Fremont you are OK but step out from under it and you are in the worst area of the city.

Hey, man, Fremont after midnight was where Joe and I won all our money at the SJ gathering of '07. :D

You want to keep that money after leaving Fremont you jump in a cab and get out of there.

If on a budget and renting a car (which I LOVE to do in LV because I like to casino-hop and see 20-30 different places over a few days), consider following these:

My wife & I did the Top 10 a few years back and made a very fun game of it. A great way to see Vegas and experience it beyond just The Strip. Saw plenty of local grinder joints as well.

Also, a guaranteed way to break even and see plenty of LV at the same time:
Pick up a Vegas 'Fun Book' with tons of match play coupons ($5-$10) for blackjack. Example: Play a $5 hand -- if you win, you get $10 back on top of the five. Do that for all the local casinos -- you'll likely be up $100 or so and get to see it all. Take a day and make a game of it with the lady.

Of course, if you have tons of cash -- a suit, multiple hookers and copious blow always make for a great LV trip.
