From 2012 WSJ: A Penthouse Fit For A King

Venture capitalist Tom Perkins puts his bold stamp on his San Francisco apartment

    http://online.wSportsJournalists.com/news/articles/SB10000872396390443477104577550910569123078

"I'm called the king of Silicon Valley. Why can't I have a penthouse?"

(The problem clearly is that the city has not cleared the street below of riffraff.)

The yacht, which Perkins christened the Maltese Falcon, perhaps best illustrates his twin loves of excess and a good challenge. The vessel, the length of a football field, is made from the same carbon-fiber material as a B-1 bomber; he equipped it with sails that unfurl at the touch of a screen and flags that spelled out in maritime code, "Rarely does one have the privilege to witness vulgar ostentation on such a grand scale."

In 2009, Leslie Stahl did a 60 Minutes interview with Tom Perkins on the Maltese Falcon:

The spirit is right, but the letter isn't. He got the $130 million yacht later. But the general gist of the point stands.

Why are you guys so obsessed with that?

Is it like the grocery scanner thing with H.W.?

Just interesting how the wealth and privilege of someone like Perkins is resented, meanwhile we've created an imperial class of folks who've built nothing.

I have no idea what point you are making.

Perkins is resented because he compared his plight to those of Jews leading into the Holocaust.

I am completely at a loss to understand how this relates to Hillary Clinton's transportation habits. I know lots and lots of people who never drive.
