Bill Masterton is the only NHL player to die as a result of injuries suffered during a match although Todd Bertuzzi almost made Steve Moore the second.

As in youth football, there have been unfortunate deaths in youth hockey, mostly because of unknown medical conditions

    I've said it's a tough way to make $138.

Check out some of the ham and eggers doing it at the local/smaller venues. It's pretty depressing.

One thing MMA has going for it: it's about as homoerotic as you can get without, you know, going all Larry Craig.

  4. I'm not sure what's funnier about this statement: That someone would make such an aggressive statement about others' need for aggression fixes, or that someone with nearly 10,000 posts on a message board is speculating on others' need to fill a hole in their lives.

I don't like MMA, because it's a "sport" based on beating the shit out of someone in ways that are outwardly violent to get a visceral reaction out of both athletes and spectators. It's a car wreck in an octagon. It's not even an interesting car wreck, like I said, it's a bar fight crossed with high school wrestling.

I'm not big on boxing either, but at least boxing has some semblence of a code and rules.

And just because something has a sanctioning body or a loose organization doesn't give them any claim to legitimacy as a "sport".

I don't know why it deserves respect as a sport. I don't know why it deserves respect at all.

I thought you would've been a bigger fan of the World Rock Paper Scissors circuit.

  8. It was on the TV in the newsroom the other day. Someone walked by and said, "Who turned on the gay porn?"

  9. The rules of MMA have come a long way, so to say it has little or no rules or code is inaccurate.

Yeah. It's got a ton of rules. It's just as sanctioned as boxing.

That's the problem. People think boxing is all sanctioned and full of rules and MMA is just guys gouging each others eyes out with no rules. Totally not that way.

Also a lot of the older sports fans want to put it down and refuse to accept it.
