I'm working on this. I don't know why, because sudoku makes my head hurt within five minutes. I think I've got the middle three blocks, horizontally, figured out. or at least damn close.

Got it. In about 20 minutes.

I think I got it.

You completed A sudoku, but it's not this one. Your final answer is quite a bit different than the final answer in the back of my book. You probably copied the original down wrong or something. Compare your second row to the original, below:

020 007 009
080 003 004
160 084 000
602 008 735
008 532 641
005 700 090
806 000 907
200 000 406
000 070 020

And just to prove it can be done, here is the final answer according to the back of my book (highlight it to see it; I don't want to ruin the surprise for anyone who's genuinely working it):

324 657 189
587 193 264
169 284 573
612 948 735
798 532 641
435 761 892
846 325 917

So it's been a day now, and no other takers. I guess it can't be done without guessing. I didn't think you were supposed to have to do that with sudokus.

That happens all the time to me. Those are the ones on the "difficult" level, because you have to make guesses and figure out if those guesses are right. It doesn't take any of the skill out of it. In fact, it just works your mind that much harder.

Here it is. No guessing required:

3 2 4 6 5 7 1 8 9
5 8 7 1 9 3 2 6 4
1 6 9 2 8 4 5 7 3
6 1 2 9 4 8 7 3 5
7 9 8 5 3 2 6 4 1
4 3 5 7 6 1 8 9 2
8 4 6 3 2 5 9 1 7
2 7 3 8 1 9 4 5 6
9 5 1 4 7 6 3 2 8

Yeah, I already posted the answer. It's in the back of my book and can easily be found online.

The whole point of the thread is: How did you do it, especially if you didn't guess at all?

Yes, tell us please.
I could not come up with the 7-9 in the middle left box without guessing.

Bottom middle box: Since 3 & 8 must be on the left, and 5 & 9 must be on the right, 1 must be right above the seven in the center.

So a 1 must be in the bottom right corner of middle box,
which puts a 1 in the top center of the left middle box,
a 6 in the bottom center of the middle box, and the edit:right side
of the bottom center box from top to bottom must be 5,9,6.

There must be a 4 in the top right of the upper left box.
The top middle of the upper middle box must be a 5, which makes the middle left of the upper left box a five. That puts a 3 in the top left of the top left box ( can't be edit:7 or 9).

That makes the bottom middle of the middle left box a 3, and the bottom left of the same box a 4.

This means the left middle of the left middle box MUST be a 7.

Damn, dude, that's impressive. I knew the 3 and 8 had to be on the left in the bottom center box, and I knew the 5 and 9 were on the right. But combining that with the 2 and 4 to get the 1 in the middle... that's genius.

Once I read your post and figured out that 1 in the bottom center box, the rest of it was pretty easy. But getting that 1... my props to you. As far as I'm concerned, you're the SJ sudoku master.

I absolutely loved Soduko until Fiest's 1-2-3-4 came out, because that's how I used to solve it by going through each block or line 1-9. Still can't get into it again.
